Backyard Overhaul with Pavers, Retaining Walls, and Full Landscape Install

Here's what a full backyard overhaul actually looks like from start to finish. We came into this one with a pretty bare canvas - overgrown shrubs, no real structure, and a backyard that wasn't doing much for the homeowner. The goal was to build something that worked better for everyday use and looked like it belonged there.

We started by laying out a sweeping paver walkway that curves through the backyard and ties everything together. The large-format pavers with the contrasting border give the space a clean, finished look without feeling overdone. From there, we built out a raised garden bed framed by a block retaining wall - the kind of detail that adds both function and structure to a yard that previously had neither. Fresh plants went in throughout, along with new trees that will only get better with time.

The new deck was a major piece of this job too. It sits elevated off the back of the house and steps down directly to the paver surface below - so moving between the upper deck and the lower yard feels natural and intentional rather than like an afterthought. Landscape lighting was woven throughout so the space holds up after dark just as well as it does during the day.

What we're proud of here is how every piece connects. The retaining wall ties into the garden beds. The paver walkway flows from the front of the home around to the back. The plantings fill in around the structure without cluttering it. That kind of cohesion doesn't happen by accident - it comes from planning the whole yard as a single project rather than a series of separate fixes.
