Coping is one of those details that most people don't think much about - until it's done wrong. It's the finished edge that runs the entire perimeter of the pool, and it's one of the first things your eye goes to when you're standing poolside. Get it right, and the whole space looks sharp and intentional. Get it wrong, and it shows.
Here's what we were working with on this Bloomfield Hills build - a brand new gunite pool shell with rebar grid already laid across the surrounding deck area, and a clean slate to work with. The coping needed to wrap the full perimeter tight and consistent, with no gaps, no uneven joints, and no margin for slop. That's exactly what we delivered.
The light-toned coping stone sits flush and level all the way around, including the entry steps. Every corner is crisp. The transition from the pool shell to the coping edge is exactly where it needs to be - no lips, no ledge problems, nothing that's going to cause headaches down the road when the rest of the deck gets poured and finished.
This is part of a much larger outdoor living build. The rebar grid you're seeing will eventually be a full hardscape deck surrounding the pool, and there's a beautiful home right behind it all that this space needs to match. Getting the coping right at this stage sets the tone for everything else that follows. We don't skip steps just because something's going to be covered up later.
Craftsmanship like this matters most in the middle stages of a build - before the glamour shots, before the water goes in. It's the work that holds everything else together. We're proud of how this one is shaping up, and we can't wait to show you the finished outdoor living space when it's all said and done.
