Lava Rock Out, Fresh Plants and Mulch In - Canton MI

Lava rock has a way of making a yard feel heavy and dated. It holds heat, it shifts around, and it just never quite looks clean - no matter how much you try to tidy it up. That was the situation here at this Canton home, and the homeowner was ready for something different.

We pulled the lava rock out completely and started fresh. New plants went in throughout the front beds - boxwoods, hostas, ornamental grasses, and a few other varieties chosen to complement the existing Japanese maples and mature trees already on the property. The goal was a layered, natural look that felt intentional without being overly formal.

Once the plants were set, we laid fresh dark mulch across all the beds. That alone changes everything. Dark mulch makes the plants pop, keeps weeds down, and retains moisture - which matters a lot when you're establishing new plants and want them to take hold quickly. It also just makes the whole front of the home look finished.
