Overgrown bushes along a house foundation are more than just an eyesore. They trap moisture, block airflow, and can quietly cause drainage problems that lead to bigger issues down the road. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this job - a tangled mess of dead and overgrown shrubs packed right up against the brick foundation, with nowhere for water to go but toward the house.

We started by pulling everything out at the roots. No cutting it down and calling it a day. Full removal. Once the area was cleared, we graded the soil to create positive drainage - meaning the ground now slopes away from the foundation instead of toward it. That's a detail a lot of people overlook, but it matters a lot for protecting your home long-term.

The difference between a quick cleanup and a proper one is in the prep work. Grading correctly takes time and an understanding of how water moves across a yard. Get it wrong and you're dealing with pooling, erosion, or water sneaking into your basement. Get it right and the space is ready for whatever comes next - whether that's new landscaping, mulch, sod, or just a clean open area.

What we ended up with is a clear, well-graded side yard that the homeowner can actually work with. The foundation vents are no longer buried. The AC unit has room around it. And the ground is set up to drain properly. Clean, functional, and ready for the next step - that's the goal on every job we take on.
